People's Finance, May 22nd - 2025 marks the final year of the deepening and improvement phase of state-owned enterprise (SOE) reforms. Recently, there have been new developments in mergers and restructuring among central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in fields such as shipping and energy, and new central SOEs are being formed rapidly in emerging sectors. Industry insiders believe that driven by multiple factors including supportive SOE reform policies and industrial transformation and upgrading, central and local SOEs are expected to lead a new wave of mergers and acquisitions.
Against this backdrop, the potential merger between Dongfeng Motor and Changan Automobile, two major state-owned automotive enterprises, has attracted significant attention in the industry. Previously, Zhu Huarong, Chairman of Changan Automobile, publicly responded to the matter, clearly stating that the restructuring plan is essentially complete, and Changan is playing an important role in advancing the relevant work.
Pan Helin, a member of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Expert Committee on Information and Communication Economics, told a reporter from Securities Times that the merger of Changan and Dongfeng would have the greatest impact on increasing scale and concentration, improving market share, and thereby enhancing their overall competitiveness.
