India Tops Global Motorcycle Market Honda Invests More

Gronewall News, May 23rd – Honda announced on May 22nd that it will increase its annual motorcycle production in India by 650,000 units. By 2027, the company plans to invest approximately 9.2 billion rupees (about 770 million yuan) in its fourth factory in Gujarat, western India, to establish a new production line. Once operational, it will become the world's largest motorcycle factory.
On the same day, Honda held a commemorative ceremony at its fourth factory in India to celebrate the company's global motorcycle cumulative production reaching 500 million units. Masao Ohtani, president of Honda's local motorcycle subsidiary in India, stated that the construction of the new production line will create 1,800 jobs and emphasized, "We hope to develop it into a strategic export base for the Central and South American markets and other global regions."
Data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) shows that India's motorcycle sales in the 2024 fiscal year reached 19.607 million units, an increase of 9% year-on-year. In the 2023 fiscal year, India surpassed China to become the world's largest motorcycle market. This is seen as a good opportunity for major manufacturers, including Honda, to expand their profits.
