Ball Screw Nut Assembly Method

The ball screw nut is widely used in industrial machinery and manufacturing industries due to its smooth motion, backlash-free operation, high rigidity, and excellent durability. It has a higher efficiency than sliding screws, with a torque requirement of less than 30%. It can easily convert linear motion into rotational motion. The key feature of its structure is the ball bearings (acting as an intermediate transmission element) fitted between the nut and the threaded screw with spiral grooves to reduce friction.

Method for Ball Screw Nut Assembly: You need a sleeve with the same diameter as the ball groove on the screw. After cleaning the nut with kerosene, apply lubricant to the ball groove, and then use a needle-like tool coated with a little lubricant to pick up the balls one by one and place them in the groove. After placing all the balls, insert the sleeve into the nut and use the screw to push the sleeve in. The sleeve prevents the balls from being pushed out during screwing.

Materials Used:

  • • Shaft (or nut carrier), which is the part that comes with the nut when it is manufactured (can be requested from the manufacturer). Use the shaft to securely hold the balls inside the nut and screw it onto the processed end of the screw. Be careful not to let the balls fall out or shift.

Installation Tips:

  • • Pay attention to the grooves between the circulators. Balls should not be installed where circulation is not required. If balls fall out, test the size of the balls before reassembly, as precision grinding may cause mixed installation of different-sized balls, which can be problematic. In such cases, it's best to seek professional assistance.
  • • For internal circulation, follow the steps mentioned above. If you can't find a shaft, you can use a thick printed paper roll, ensuring it is strong and round. For external circulation, install the balls one by one on the screw and nut to ensure a continuous cycle and proper ball retention.

Detailed Steps for Ball Screw Nut Assembly:

  1. 1. Clean the ball screw nut and balls.
  2. 2. Replace the plastic ball retainer (ball reverser) inside the nut, ensuring smooth connection between the retainer and the screw groove.
  3. 3. Apply lubricant to the nut.
  4. 4. Place the balls in the screw groove, filling it according to the principle of one retainer per cycle. If the nut has four retainers, it means four cycles.
  5. 5. Screw the nut onto the screw (be careful not to lose the balls).
  6. 6. Rotate the nut forward and backward to check if it moves smoothly. If the nut moves smoothly, it indicates that the balls are properly installed.
